Should I get a fixed price or estimate?

Both options have pros and cons. We prefer to offer an estimate for a range for reasons including

  • It allows us to give you the best price possible without having to pass on risk margins which will cost you more.
  • We use a quantity surveyor to provide a comprehensive estimate for your job giving you full transparency for you and your bank.
  • Sometimes you change your mind and we don’t want to get in your way.
  • We’re confident our team will work quickly and efficiently.
  • It’s less risky for both parties.

When do I involve a builder?

Whether you’ve just started considering your options or you’re further down the track, now is the perfect time. We’re happy to discuss your project no matter what stage you’re at. It can be beneficial to involve your builder early in the process especially if they’re experienced and have knowledge that they can provide early to help the process run smoothly and avoid budget blowouts.

Do you build energy efficient and environmentally sustainable homes?

Yes, with the cost of living increasing, we’re passionate about ensuring you have the utmost comfort in your home. Sustainably built, sustainably heated and low maintenance are three key aspects that are important to our company.

Do you design and build?

We have a list of preferred and trusted architects that we work with or we can work with your own.

When can you start?

We can give you an indication today when we have a space opening and once we have the paperwork sorted, you will have a full timeline with start and completion dates.

Do you offer house plans, or house and land packages?

We’re primarily focused on custom or ‘bespoke’ homes.

Who will be working on my project?

We select the best team members for your job based on their skills, expertise and interests to ensure you have the perfect passionate and efficient team for your unique project. All team members are experienced builders who work closely with Logan to ensure our high-standard are met.

I have plans, can you price them?

We would love to hear from you to determine whether we would be a good fit. Before we carry out a comprehensive estimate quote, we may require a ‘preliminary contract for pricing’ which helps cover our costs, as a comprehensive estimate takes weeks to consolidate quotes from multiple suppliers and tradespeople.

Will I have to move out?

Whether you move out or not depends on the size and complexity of your job. We will be able to tell you in advance what is required and time frames so you have plenty of time to plan and prepare. If it’s safe and practical to stay living in your house, we will do our best to accommodate your preference during the process.

How can I avoid going over budget?

Making sure you understand all elements of your build thoroughly and you have advice from someone who has seen it all before and understands the practicality before finalising. We recommend involving your builder early in the process to make sure you have full transparency and an understanding of your plans will unfold. It’s also important that your sub tradespeople work well together to deliver efficiently.

Is there any guarantee promised?

Yes. As NZCB members we offer protection for your investment and home.

Will I need council consent?

It is likely that you will need consent unless the work you require is minor. Any structural changes, additions or major changes to a building require consent. There is also a chance you will need resource consent. If you’re unsure whether you will need consent, visit the Auckland Council website for additional information or details on how to speak to an Auckland Council representative.

What is a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP)?

A Licensed Building Practitioner is someone who has been assessed and has been deemed capable to carry out building work involving structure or weather tightness of a residential building. They’re legally bound to their work as all building work needs to be sighted by Auckland Council and signed by a LBP.

Can I involve my own contractors, friends or family to carry out some elements of the build?

We offer a full service project management and have good relationships with some of the top tradespeople in and around Auckland. It is certainly beneficial to utilise our network, however occasionally we do make exceptions.

Is it best to choose the lowest quote or estimate?

When it comes to building, there are so many factors to consider before selecting your builder. What’s most important is that your choosing a team that you trust and that you enjoy working with, because when you select the best team for the job, you’re better off in the long run and a higher quote from a reputable company will lead to more money in your pocket or profit in the bank because it’s been built right from the start, an important aspect to consider for resale value.
